Prognozy pogody nie nastrajały optymistycznie, a wraz z ilością śniegu w ścianie zwiększało się niebezpieczeństwo lawin przechodzących przez żleb podejściowy. 16 marca po 8 dniach w ścianie i osiągnięciu wysokości 5750m, członkowie zespołu podejmują decyzję o odwrocie. Po kilkugodzinnych zjazdach i zostawieniu połowy sprzętu w żlebie podejściowym o godzinie 21 zespół dociera do bazy. Po dniu odpoczynku, udało się ewakuować resztę sprzętu, nim nadeszło sześciodniowe załamanie pogody. 22 marca do bazy dociera karawana i rozpoczyna się dwudniowe zejście.
